Women groups and activists for NGOs operating in Northern Uganda have ganged up to boost their colleagues in Lira City to amplify voices calling on minister Betty Amongi Ongom Akena to use her position in government, as the line minister charged with protecting children and youth, and cause the arrest and urgent prosecution of pistol-carrying Kiwaani General Mike Remy Okello Adan Alengo based in Lira.
Adan’s troubles started a few days ago when an audio of him pressuring a 13-year-old girl for sexual pleasure went viral on Whatsapp groups comprising of elite Langis both in Uganda and Diaspora. In the audio, the kiwaani General is heard menacingly asking the minor to come over to Citadel Tower in the middle of Lira City and give him ‘some.’
Located in the center of Lira City, Citadel Tower is a maginificent building owned by Sira Okello Ocero on whose behalf Adan has been understood to be doing property management since the building was first established. Indeed, the now incognito sexpest has an office there as a custodian.
In the viral audio, the Kiwaani general is heard cracking all manner of dirty jokes all aimed at seducing the minor to abandon her studies and begin to be available to service his sex desires full time since money isn’t his problem.
Saying he is ready to do anything for her, he begs her to come to his office and have good sex from there since money isn’t his problem anymore. That he wants to have the pride to have broken her virginity.
He is heard directing her to come to Obote Avenue near Centenary Bank and makes it clear nobody will catch them because he is a big man who has always had sex with other similarly innocent girls there before.
On getting overwhelmed by his offers including the promise to die for her anytime anywhere, the girl decided to confide in her maternal grandmother who equally gets appalled at the wickedness of this sexpest. “I will Twaa-Twaa you for just a few minutes and you run back home even your parents won’t know about it.”
Whoever has listened to the audio is angry and convinced that there is a clear case to answer which is why as Gender minister Betty Amongi has come under pressure to intervene after the area Police top leadership refused to do anything thus far.
Even when he carries a pistol and is always carrying Betty Amongi’s handbag to show how connected and powerful he is, kiwaani general Adan is currently worried he is going to be arrested and locked up over this clear sex offence. He is also afraid that this latest scandal, as illustrated in the audio whose authenticity hasn’t been disputed, might create PR problems for minister Betty Amongi whom he has been marketing for Lira City woman MP post.
Amongi’s bodyguards are excited to see that the man who has been threatening their VIP protection job over her as a minister is finally having his goose cooked.
It’s now emeging from eyewitnesses that a good number of teenage girls have always been seen climbing upstairs into that same building to go get themselves slaughtered.
All things said and done, kiwaani general Adan, who always parks his black Fuga vehicle on the road pavement in front of Citadel building, must be regretting the day he accepted to be tempted by the devil into this reckless sex behavior.
The other ironical fact about this latest sex case is that the mother of the same teenage girl is also a victim of sexual abuse in the same Lira city where her virginity was broken and diginity permanently taken away from her at the age of 16. Its something the same general Adan is supposed to know a lot about too.
At the time of filing this story, minister Amongi’s Agwetangwet-based blue eye boy Adan was still reclusive as his friends advised that he raises some good money to bribe some of the senior police and judicial officers who might be unleashed to go after him when the appropriate time comes.
As his allies and patrons work around the clock to help him to frustrate justice and kill the case, several child rights activists have vowed to keep mounting pressure even if that will require escalating their whistle blowing all the way to Kampala.
As they do all this, such activists are counting on minister of Gender Betty Amongi, within whose docket the welfare of the young people falls, to stand up and be there for victims of sex harrassment and exploitation in Lira, a City she claims to love so much and wants to represent as Woman MP come 2026.
