The majority of voters of Oyam South Constituency have boldly voiced their concern, demanding the Electoral Commission to declare the area vacant for a by-election.

The electorates voiced their concerns during several meetings held in various parishes within Oyam South County where Amongi’s brother was introduced and sold to the reluctant Oyam residents as someone fit and capable.

They said Amongi has abandoned the constituency to pursue her 2026 political ambition for the Lira City Woman MP seat.

According to the locals, in the recent past, their legislator has been injecting millions of shillings in supporting development activities in Lira City leaving the Oyam South grappling with bad roads, poor education standards as well as limping health services.

The voters accused Amongi of trying to ring-fence Oyam South for her family members where she can lead from decades and leave for a blood brother to take over, something which they overwhelmingly condemned.

The voters vowed to petition Parliament to compel Amongi to remit the constituency funds, her salaries for the remaining 18 to an independent bank account of Oyam or resign.

They also want Amongi to surrender the vehicles which she bought with the money given her by the Parliament as Oyam South MP since she has not been delivering in the area and now that she has declared readiness to leave.

‘’Amongi, we the people of Oyam South are looking for you; you left us so early. We need our money because you have left so early when it’s still remaining 18 months to the 2026 elections. We actually don’t need you back but we are demanding what belongs to us,’’ a voter by the names of Obuku Obuku Fred lamented and warned people of Lira City against accepting Amongi’s political bait.

He urged Amongi to resign to enable the government know that they no longer have her as their MP so that a by-election can be organized for Oyam South to elect a willing person with reputable character to legislate for them for the next eighteen years.

Charles Opio, a voter from Ocwini in Aber sub county, said they are very discomforted by Amongi for having abandoned the constituency for the years she has been representing them since the early 2000s.

He said there are a number of girls that have dropped out from school and general drop in education standards for Oyam as a result of Amongi’s negligence and lukewarm performance.

“We don’t want Amongi to leave Oyam South for another constituency before she accounts for the money she has been receiving from parliament to develop the constituency.”

‘’Much as she is leaving we are warning her that Oyam County is for all of us and she should not dictate to us who to replace her. Her political propaganda made us reject very many good leaders like Isaa Otto Amiza, Beatrice Lagada and Nelson Adea Akar who should now come out and take over the area but not Amongi’s brother,’’ Charles Opio.

Geoffrey Okello, a business man in Minakulu, a sub county where Amongi comes from, said they were already tired with Amongi and her announcement to quit the area is a God-given opportunity for the constituency to get a good leader who is development-oriented and pro-voters.

He however cautioned Lira City against sacrificing any constituency for Amongi in the next year general elections saying she is untrusted and voters will end up regretting (God forbid) if they ever make such a mistake.

The concerns came after Minister Amongi traversed some areas of Oyam South County where she convened meetings ostensibly to bid farewell to the voters while making it clear that all her efforts would now be focused on Lira City politics where she is menacingly looking and salivating at Jane Ruth Aceng’s Woman MP Seat.
