The embattled Lira City Female Workers Councilor Sarah Awor has continued to face rejection from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders and the entire membership in Lira City.

This was on clear display during the weekend meeting the NRM cadres held at St. Lira Hotel on Sunday, attracting leaders of the party from various villages, Wards and the two Divisions making up the City.

The members in attendance, numbering about 200, unanimously rejected Awor’s intention to contest against Lira City Woman MP Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng against whom her other ally Betty Amongi is also running.

Aceng is highly celebrated in the region of Lango as one of the few best performing Members of Parliament and Ministers who have delivered something tangible for the sub region.

In a recent press briefing organized by some identified members of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), reportedly convened for the appeasement of Amongi who is the Gender Minister and Oyam South MP, Awor declared interest to battle with Dr. Aceng in the internal party elections for the position of Lira City Woman MP to carry the NRM flag.

At the press conference, the independent City Councilor said that not even God, lightning or any pressure would stop her from contesting against Lango’s darling political giant Aceng. This was taken by many as not only aimed at disorganizing Minister Aceng but a well-thought out approach by opposition members to infiltrate party primaries and destabilize NRM party in Lira City and Lango since Dr. Aceng has stood out as a true testimony for the ruling party’s ability to conquer the region.

George Okot, a senior NRM cadre, said that they were concerned with Awor’s declaration to run in NRM primaries because she is not a party subscriber and above all, she has formed alliance with the members of the opposition. Okot said this is abominable which makes Awor a legitimate target for them to fight hard against as genuine cadres of NRM in Lango.

“Anybody who is coming to contest against Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng can come under the principal of competitiveness and quality assurance. The coming of that person must be prudent within the political identification. Awor Sarah’s affiliation with NUP is not in the line with the NRM and she is not a subscriber as she is currently serving on independent ticket and not any day have we ever heard that she crossed back to the NRM,” Okot noted.

Jonal Okot, the Assistant RDC of Apac district, rallied NRM cadres to avoid politics of intrigue and mobilize masses to get out of poverty through embracing government programs like Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Funds and PDM among others. Okot said the right time for politicking will come but now is not yet the time for such disruptive politics as is represented by Awor.

“The previous press conference Sarah Awor held at St. Lira Hotel attracted a number of masqueraders,” Okot noted explaining that “some people were coming from NUP, while others are from UPC and claiming to be members of the ruling party. That’s why the cadres of Lira City have come out today to say no because they still believe in a developer, revolutionary, socioeconomic transformer who is non either than Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero.”

Okot explained further that Sara Awor is welcome if she wants to come to the NRM party but that they will at all cost safeguard the party from the misuse of the tittle cadre. He added that even when that is the case, they are still sticking with Dr. Aceng whom he referred to as a developer and a ‘bus driver and conductor’ who is steering the socioeconomic transformation in Lango sub region very well so far.

Moses Opio, the deputy security Minister of Security in Lango Cultural Foundation who is also a prominent Cadre, suggested that Awor should begin by registering as a party member of NRM before she starts bragging as a party cadre. He tasked Awor to also reconcile with the fellow Councilors in the City and give accountability for what she has done during her tenure as the Workers’ representative as City level.

Opio referred to both Awor and Betty Amongi Akena (who is believed to be her ally) as spoilers who are anti-development agents in Lango, warning the electorates of Lira City against falling prey to their baits. He observed that it’s only Dr. Aceng who has contributed significantly to the tangible development of the community of Lango and that both ruling party members and those in opposition should unite and support her so she can retain her seat unopposed in 2026 and thereafter carry on consolidating her record of great achievements.

Patrick Okwir Kampala, another prominent cadre branded Sarah Awor and close associate Daniel Okello to be fortune hunters andn political opportunists and brokers whose motive in fighting Dr. Aceng is to appease and earn money from her archrival Betty Amongi who is also a money bags of some sort.

“This lady [Agweri] is being used to cause commotion in the NRM party and she has a bad track record which led her to jail. I thought her reappearance was to update the public on the status of criminal cases against her in court but I am surprised she is declaring her intentions to distract the precious Lango girl Aceng. We condemn this in totality and we warn her ally Okello Daniel to stay away from our party affairs,” Okwir added.

On his part Solomon Okello, another senior NRM mobilizer, observed that it would be a total disservice not only to the people of the party but the entire Lango sub region and the country if the people of Lira City decided to sacrifice Dr. Jane Aceng for Betty Amongi who has not delivered any development to the community of Oyam which she has represented since the year 2001. He contrasted that with what Aceng has delivered and accomplished for her people in just five years.

Okello warned Amongi to direct her focus to her constituency of Oyam South and start delivering services to the electorate who gave been there for her for the last 25 years rather than wasting time antagonizing the development-oriented Jane Ruth Aceng who is peaceful, non-confrontational and always dedicated to developing her people.
