Over the weekend, a total of 8,000 hoes were offloaded and entered into Lira City MP Jimmy Akena’s residence by a group of casual labours who had been contracted to do the needful.
The hoes are ostensibly meant for distribution to Lira city residents ideally to influence and soften their views towards Betty Amongi, Jimmy Akena’s wife, who has since controversially relocated from her Oyam MP Seat to come and antagonize the people’s darling Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, who is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Lira city currently.
As the young men offloaded hoes and put them inside the UPC president’s residence, the area residents expressed cynicism wondering what Jimmy Akena and his UPC first lady take them for.
These demanded that the political duo considers delivering to them more impactful interventions than hoes which would serve a better purpose in rural constituencies like Oyam from which Amongi is running away.
“This is real taking us for granted because as city residents, we have more pressing priorities to impact our development than hoes. This is why we urge the Akena couple to stop taking us for granted and for imagining that we are goats simply because they see us with ears,” said of the Lira city dwellers who is among those concerned and feeling conflicted having to have the husband and wife seek to represent the same political territory-one as a male and the other as a female parliamentary representative.
“We aren’t very comfortable with such dynastic tendencies as if other people’s children didn’t go to school.”
