Some time back, old man Isaac Mufumba (aka gun for hire) who works as a junior news reporter at weekend Monitor wrote a story falsely stating that microfinance minister Haruna Kasolo had used his office as MSC supervisor to fraudulently take out 2bn from MSC to fund his Kasolo Foundation in Kyotera where he had served as MP for 10 years from 2011 up to 2021.
It turned out the story was untrue and Monitor bosses offered an apology over the same. This was after their new MD established that the Kasolo Foundation had only served as a guarantor to hundreds of women groups and saccos which borrowed between Ugx10 and Ugx30m which over the years totalled to Ugx2bn.
The Mufumba story had made it seem as if Kasolo personally took the money in one batch and invested it in his personal things.
The Monitor bosses established that the money was actually given out by MSC staff members at the Kyotera branch to the different women groups which have gone gone ahead to perform so well and paying back very well. They also established the same was processed through all the due processes including being approved by the MSC Board.
Even when he had all these facts, old man Mufumba (aka gun for hire) still went ahead and wrote the story to satisfy those who had facilitated the same which is why his bosses ended in big trouble when someone signalled them that Kasolo was filing a defamation suit against the newspaper which has been losing many defamation suits lately.
Contrary to what Isaac Mufumba wrote, the loans for Kyotera women groups had been well processed and approved through MSC board as is required by law.
The timing of the Mufumba story was aimed at coinciding with the cabinet reshuffle which everyone thought Museveni was about to make. Haters facilitated Mufumba to make Kasolo seem dirty and scandalous so that Museveni drops him. In the end, the expected reshuffle never happened and even when it eventually occurred, Kasolo wasn’t fired. This made haters to shed buckets of tears.
The plotters out to get Kasolo syndicated with some MPs of Cosase in Parliament where Richard Sebamala got hold of the screaming Monitor headline and used his Cosase membership to demand that the MSC top management members appear to explain how Kasolo had forced them to release 2bn to his Foundation, a nonprofit-making organisation limited by guarantee.
Sebamala is an interested party because Haruna Kasolo has become so popular in his Bukoto central constituency and is going to uproot him come 2026. Sebamala’s act of using Cosase to fight a political opponent is actually an act of conflict of interest and clear abuse of office.
Nevertheless, the Cosase chair Joel Ssenyonyi who wanted media publicity for his committee entertained the Ssebamala proposal without reflecting on clear conflict of interest.
As soon as Mufumba’s facilitated fake story came out on the weekend, the finance ministry asked the MSC top management whether it was true 2bn had been given to the line minister yet the law is very management
The MSC top management rightly explained that it was fake and untrue. The management was then ordered to use the same media platforms to refute the story and set the record straight and they refused.
Why? Our investigations show that, closely working with some haters inside the finance ministry, some members of MSC top management aren’t very comfortable having Kasolo as their line minister because he is incorruptible and a tough man.
Some MSC top management members were expecting the reshuffle would bring for them someone more soft only for Museveni to keep Kasolo there.
The hateful MSC top management members were actually not bothered with the Sebamala outbursts based on the kiwani story of Isaac Mufumba as long as the bad publicity coming from the Cosase meetings would help them to portray Kasolo as scandalous and undeserving to be minister for microfinance in Uganda.
The Finance ministry had been approached by disgruntled MSC staff who were tired of being pushed to overvalue collateral and issue out big loans to undeserving borrowers who would be of interest to the top management bosses and their other allies elsewhere.
In some cases, these would be individuals and SMEs which aren’t supposed to access such cash because its strictly for Saccos. Some of the managers ended up being forced out of the job after top management used the HR Claire Louise Atuheirwe to maliciously force them out.
The affected members of staff saw this as being marginalised when actually its their top bosses who slept on the job.
Anti-Kasolo actors in top management have always been reluctant to clarify on any fake media stories about MSC because it was in their interest to have such bad publicity because in their thinking it would help to make Kasolo look like he is failing the sector.
For them as top management bosses never feared to lose their jobs because, some of them being westerners, they have strong backers in high places. Such highly connected bosses always believed that its Kasolo, the undesirable minister, who would get soiled by such bad media publicity, and punished in the end as the political leader.
But over the weekend, the New Vision published a larger story showing a lot of rot at MSC and the back seemed to stop with some top management officials; with the 2bn which Kasolo Foundation guaranteed for hundreds of groups and saccos in Kyotera was only peripherally referred to.
This is why the top management finally woke up from slumber and contacted New Vision to clarify on a few things but even then they had no appetite to clarify anything about the 2bn which he knows was falsely attributed to their line minister Haruna Kasolo.
Unfortunately for them, more rot is going to be coming out via media leaks because the more than 15 managers they recently purged especially from the credit department at the Nakasero branch, are angry and determined not to go down alone.
They still have their allies inside the organisation and can access all the information they want and need to ensure their tormentors in top management don’t have any peace.
There are also some genuine borrowers who have been damaged in the malicious media stories as insiders at MSC work towards destroying and discrediting minister Kasolo. These are angry and determined to join the fight against the top management members at MSC.
Angered by the 100bn scandal auditors recently unearthed at MSC, finance Minister Matia Kasaija has also tied the top management’s hand by halting all manner of loans disbursements by MSC until the entire operation gets thoroughly reviewed.
Simply because they want to fix Kasolo, insiders in MSC top management have ended up working with Museveni’s opponents like LoP Joel Ssenyonyi and the entire NUP social media structure.
Ssenyonyi and Bobi Wine have an interest in destroying Kasolo and soil his image because he recently strengthened the Mathias Mpuuga revolt by being of the ministers who attended his thanksgiving event at Kitovu Arena in Masaka.
This is why The Kampala Journal, a fictitious twitter account which the NUP Secretariat bosses use to anonymously attack and destroy leaders who offend their interests, has been very active in soiling Haruna Kasolo’s name depending on the contents of the fake news story which Mzee Isaac Mufumba wrote for daily monitor months ago.
The newspaper bosses long apologised over the story to prevent Haruna Kasolo from dragging Monitor newspaper to court.
The other Museveni opponent and hater Haruna Kasolo’s haters inside MSC have unknowingly been aiding is Bukoto central MP Richard Sebamala who in 2021 defeated vice president Edward Sekandi.
Sebamala sits on Cosase and has been using his position there to make noise against the microfinance minister not because there is anything wrong he has done but simply because Haruna Kasolo responded to calls by opinion leaders in the area of Bukoto central to offer himself for that same seat come 2026 on the NRM ticket.
In fact, by riding on Mzee Mufumba’s fake news story over which daily monitor managers long apologised, Richard Sebamala is committing acts of abuse of office i.e using his Cosase membership to undermine and maliciously discredit a political opponent.
