The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Gen Francis Ogolla is dead. He died after a chopper he was travelling in alongside others officials crashed in Kaben, Marakwet East on Thursday.
The chopper accident happened this evening today April 28th 2024. It’s said that the chopper was carrying 12 people including officers of the rank of General when it went down.
Eye witnesses according to the Star Kenya say the chopper burst into frames on crashing. Reports further suggest there was only one survivor believed to be a photographer. The accident scene was cordoned off soon after the accident.
The officers were surveying the area ahead of the planned deployment of more troops to battle cattle rustlers in the area. Police initially said five officers had died and three survived.
The chopper said to be a Kenya Air Force Huey Helicopter had taken off from a local primary school when it went down and burst into frames.
Ogolla was named the new Chief of Defense Forces in changes in the military, taking over from his predecessor General Robert Kibochi. Kibochi handed over to Ogolla as CDF after attaining the mandatory exit age of 62.
