For over 10 years, Ugandans have known veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda as a crusader of homosexuality and a strong supporter of LGBTQ rights.

For example in 2014 when Kadaga passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2013 on 21st December 2013 which parliamentarians described as a Christmas gift to Ugandans signed by president later in January 2014 in law, Andrew Mwenda, Fox Odoi, Nicholas Opio and others petitioned the Constitutional Court to trash it.

That same year in August, the Constitutional Court bench led by the then acting Chief Justice Steven Kavuma nullified the Anti-homosexuality Act 2013 on grounds that parliament lacked quorum while passing the bill.  After that win Andrew Mwenda chest thumped how he had won government on that

Last year when parliament passed the same law again and signed into law by president Museveni, Andrew Mwenda, fox Odoi and others still petitioned the same court in their bid to fight to the rights of homosexuals to have the law nullified again for the second time in 10 years.

Appearing on NTV the Spot on 23rd March 2023, the Patriotic League of Uganda Spokesperson questioned what’s criminal with two consenting adult men having same sex intercourse when they have all agreed. Mwenda who was hosted alongside NUP legislator Medard Lubega Ssegona by journalist Patrick clearly stated that there’s no reason why homosexuality between two same sex adults should be criminalized.

“If i sit in the privacy of my bedroom with a fellow man who is also consenting, what have i taken from Medard or anybody? The two of us will be consenting. Why do you want to criminalize that?”-questioned Andrew Mwenda.

Early this week, the constitutional court led by Deputy Chief Justice Richard Butera shot down some sections of the law but declined to nullify the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 in it’s entirety sighting no substantiality in the petition that Mwenda and his colleagues took to the court.

Andrew Mwenda would that day immediately after the judgement lash at the judges and revealed he was shocked that the court didn’t look at the side of human rights, he wondered why court failed to nullify the law and even revealed him and others will be heading to the supreme court to seek another chance on their petition.

The veteran journalist had faced backlash on his strong stance against the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 leaving people with questions on whether he minds about family and marriage values.

Photos have now made their way to the internet when Andrew Mwenda in a marriage ceremony with his wife franked by Ministers Norbert Mao and Jim Muhwezi. This has left many people questioning how Andrew Mwenda preaches wine and takes water.

Asked about the photos, Andrew Mwenda has lashed at those who leaked the photos of his marriage ceremony calling them fake people who should even be hanged.
