Former Kenyan Minister Languishing In Ugandan Jail

In the news this morning, a former Kenyan minister has slept in Luzira prions after he was arrested by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) over dubious dealings.

Stephen Kipkiyeng Tarus the Kenyan  former Assistant minister of internal affaires under President Mwai Kibaki has been jailed and remanded until 27th April.

The Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday presided over by Her Worship Ether Asiimwe remanded until the 18th January 2023, he’s accused of falsification of export documents avoiding paying of taxes to the Ugandan government to the tune of Shs5e

The Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday, 10th January, 2024 presided over by Her Worship, Esther Asiimwe remanded Taros over falsification of export documents potentially causing tax revenue to the government of Uganda to the tune Shs52Bn a year.

He’s said have been in possession of 13kgs smuggled gold which could have costed the government Shs113m revenue.

Tarus was allegedly arrested with 13Kgs of smuggled gold which could have costed the government Shs113M in revenue. He also violated Section 203 (b) of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004 as amended and on conviction, he faces up to 3 years in prison or a fine of to USD 10,000
