The bold voice of the Lioness of Dokolo Cecilia Ogwal went silent today as she succumbed to cancer from a hospital in India. According to parliament, the Hon Ogwal was rushed to overseas for medication after a short illness.
Many leaders have mourned Ogwal whom they have described as a voice for the voiceless who championed multipartyism and rights of women and girls. She had been in parliament for 28 years having joined the house in 1994 as a representative of Lira in the constituency Assembly that promulgated the 1995 constitution.
Among the leaders who have mourned Ogwal include Lira City Women Member of parliament and also minister of health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng who said Cecilia was an iconic figure in shaping Uganda’s politics, and her wisdom will live on for decades to come.
