Speaking about the incident of last week that left 10 people dead, president Museveni ordered the UPDF to re-activate the Local Defense Unit (LDU) in the area to heighten up the security after people abandoned their homes in fear of the ruthless rebels who have made several attacks on Uganda this year.
Almost using the same style of attacks since the Kichwamba Technical college incident of 8th June 1998 where they burnt students in their hostels, ADF has this year made several attacks in the western parts of Uganda. They attacked a school in Lhubiriha in May this year killing over 40 and abducted a yet to be known number of students. They then attacked a truck carrying onions in Mpondwe, burnt it nd killed it’s occupants, these also attacked tourists in Queen Elizabeth National park leaving the newly English wed couple and their driver dead and burnt their car to ashes, they attacked another village in Kamwenge last week leaving 10 people dead.
UPDF is in Congo alongside the Congolese army since 2021 fighting with the Allied Democratic forces who have occupied and terrorized the area since the early 90s. Their founder and commander Jamil Mukulu remains incarcerated in Luzira prison after having been arrested in Tanzania in 2015, he’s yet to be arraigned in court to face trial.
