In a rather shocking incident, it’s been reported that the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers manning areas of Karamoja region are accused of stealing over 400 heads of cattle from Kacheliba Village, Kacheliba sub-county in West Pokot County in the neighboring Kenya,
The incident is said to have happened yesterday Wednesday 29 November 2023 when the soldiers reportedly seized a herd of cattle belonging to a one Lopeta Nduywa who was grazing them at around 3:00 pm and forcefull drove them towards Ugandan side. According to Nduywa, the stolen included those belonging to his brother Tukuk Rodinyo.

The incident according to reports has since been reported to the Kanyerus police post for investigation.
The Citizen reports that this particular incident follows a clash on Tuesday, November 28 in the Lochacha village of West Pokot where six people were killed amid a stand-off between cattle rustlers and residents. Three locals pursuing the rustlers were allegedly killed by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officers, while locals managed to kill other rustlers who had made away with an unknown number of goats.
The UPDF in the Karamoja region which is now Headed by Maj Gen Don Nabaasa tasked to fighting cattle rustling has been drawn in bad light recently when soldiers have killed cows and injured many in two separate incidents living the residents to fear.
There has been incidents of cattle rustlers especially the Turkanas who cross from Kenya to raid animals in Uganda.
We contacted the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in Uganda for a comment but by the time of publishing this story, the PRO for the Karamoja division had not replied to our repeated messages.
