In 2006 general elections, it should be noted that NRM lost the entire region and the FDC was known to be fire in Teso, voters in Teso region had no time to waste with the yellow candidates by then, because even if the candidate had a picture of an animal as long ad its has FDC key as symbol he or she wins elections.

At height of opposition politics in Teso, voters had their slogan saying eat from NRM but sleep in FDC and indeed they ate in NRM and slept in FDC. This publication learnt that all those previous elections still Teso region was strong with opposition not until in 2011 when things started changing, the voters in Teso got tired of voting claiming that the people they always voted was not being declared a winner, so others opted to stay at their homes during the elections without casting the votes, while others developed the mindset change saying it’s better to deal with a devil you know than an angle that’s not seen.
In 2016 elections, NRM started pounding Teso region heavily, yellow T.shirts which were being used for chasing birds from rice gardens, turned to be gold while the blue FdC T.shirts that voters in Teso had loved and can only be worn for ceremonies are not also back to the swamps.
The elections of 2021 was the biggest blow characterized by massive arrests and ballot staffing. The by election for Soroti city East left everyone wandering whether Soroti still has a strong opposition, those who are still tagged themselves as oppositions have been left with no option but eating from NRM at night while day time they walk in opposition.
This publication has learnt that 2026 general elections might be worse with even the remaining opposition who chanced to win an elections because of the current corruption characterized by massive land sale and double leasing of land where they are also accused of sharing the money with the corrupt city council officials.
So far Soroti has been noted to be the most corrupt city in the whole eastern and northern Uganda where the office of the city clerk wakes up and releases plots without following the rightful procedures. Moses Omande one of the voters in Soroti said he has been supporting FDC all along but most of those whom he used to support in FDC have all crossed to NRM.
“There’s no opposition any more in Soroti especially here in Soroti city, we know people who fall sick and run at night to NRM leaders to get support for treatment and paying school fees for their children”-he said
