More than 100 helpless victims of recent Pakia inter clan conflict in Akaa subcounty , Zombo district received basic relief items of basins , clothes, Jerrycans ,soap ,saucepans ,cups among other essential items from Nebbi catholic diocese and it’s CARITAS, humanitarian agency.
Rt.Rev.Raphael P’Mony Wokorach presided over commiseration Holy mass and blessed the relief items meant for the affected communities.
The conflict that was sparked by the “murder in cold blood” of the Chairperson, Zombo Tea Growers Cooperative Union ,late Mr. Jimmy Okello by unknown machete welding men along Kagera stream connecting the two clans of Pakia bonguyec and Palei ,prompted the deceased’s family and relatives to retaliate by torching over 130 huts , killing and looting of properties of the alleged perpetrators in the neighborhood villages of Akol,Agulu and Gwoknyeri.
More than 500 people were left homeless as their houses were burnt to ashes ,animals ,Irish potato seedlings and other properties worth million of shillings looted and destroyed.
The devastating effects of the conflict on the community urgently attracts interventions of humanitarian agencies and organisations to rejuvenate the social, economic and spiritual attitudes of the victimized communities.
Zombo district is not alien to mob justice , previous paradigm of destructive effects of mob justice has not delivered any sermon on the mountain for the people of Zombo, trajectory that when not intercepted and streamed will hatch into serious insecurity threat that wrong elements may take advantage of to inflict pain on the people .
