President Museveni who is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces has approved the retirement of some soldiers some of whom have served the army for many years and have clocked the retirement age.
Among those set to retire is former police boss Gen Kale Kayihura who was dropped from the juicy position in 2016 by president Museveni and replaced him with his then deputy IGP Martin Okoth Ochola.
He was later arrested from his Lyantonde farm and has been battling some charges related to his mode of operations when he was police boss but the General Court last week dropped the charges against Kayihura and even cleared him to retire.
The former police was on 13th September 2019 Sanctioned by the US and later on 12th December 2022 even the UK sanctioned him for his involvement and presiding over police which tortured suspects.
The list also features prominent army Generals like Lt Gen James Nakibus Lakara, Maj Gen Samuel Wasswa Mutesasira, Maj Gen Joseph Arocha, Maj Gen David Wakaalo,Brig Gen Austine Kasatwooki Kamanyire, Brig Gen Steven Oluka, Brig Gen Frank Katende Kyambadde, Brig Gen Emmanuel Kwihangana, Brig Gen Wilson Muhabuzi and Brig Gen Ham Atwoki Kaija.

The event which will take place on 31st August will see other 99 soldiers from the rank of Major to Colonel also sent home to retire from the army.
This is the second the second time in less than a year Museveni is retiring army Generals, the previous batch had Gen David Sejusa, Maj Gen Andrew Gutti, Maj Gen Steven Kasha, Maj Gen Manon Katirima, Lt Gen Proscovia Nalweyiso among others were sent home and officially signed out from the UPDF.
