NAPAK: The child rights activists and the general public in Karamoja have hailed court in Moroto for remanding to prisons Sisto Alinga the district engineer of Napak for burning a young girl using a hot iron box describing the act as inhumane.
Alinga on Friday appeared before the Moroto grade one magistrate who could not allow him take plea since the case is capital in nature and he was remanded to Moroto prisons for two months pending to appear before high court. Tuesday, the police in Moroto district arrested Alinga for causing body injury by burning and beating a 12 year old girl whom he had employed as house maid in Moroto.
He used hot flat iron burning the child’s buttocks, legs, hands and again used pair of campus pricking the child several times. His arrest was after a concerned residents alerted the district probation office who later reported the case to police forcing the police to swing in action.
Margaret Ilukol one of the child rights activists says the remand of the district engineer to prisons will serve as a warning to other people who don’t respect the rights of the children. According to Ilukol, they have already learnt that there was a group of people mobilizing money so that they can get production warrant on Monday where they will bail him out and asked the court to decline that invitation.
“We shall stage a serious protest should court grant the accused bail when the child is already still in pain in the hospital”-she revealed.

Mark Louse another activist asked the authority from Napak district to suspend the engineer from work since he has been remanded.
“We must fight hard to protect children and the perpetrators of child abuse must be dealt vigorously”-Louse said
