NAKAPIRIPIRITI: Residents of Moruita sub county in Nakapiripirit district Karamoja sub region have asked the state house anticorruption unit to investigation the utilisation of Shs420million that the district received from an investor for the land lease in Komacharin village in Moruita sub county.
Speaking to this website Lonyes Kiyonga the district LCV councilor for Moruita sub county said in 2013, the sub county entered into a memorandum of understanding with a certain investor who paid Shs420m land lease to do farming.
He said the money was channeled to the district general account and that instead of the district sending 65% of the funds to the sub county account, it only sent Shs40m further saying the rest of the money was mismanaged through dubious activities which were not intended for.
According to Lonyes the diversion of the money has made the sub county fail to accomplish its planned development.
“The law is very clear the sub county was supposed to have received 65%of that money but to our surprise the district decided to send only Shs40m to the sub county and there was no answers given to us”- Lonyes recounted
Gregory Loyele the Moruita sub county chairperson says they need investigations into the utilisation of the money.
“Its very sad that what we should take as a sub county is being taken completely by the district”- Gregory says
The efforts to get the comment from Nakapiripirit district Mr.Abdahala Ayuwi were futile as his phone was off.
However, Mark Kocho the chief finance officer Nakapiripirit confirmed that the district land board committee agreed on the modality on how the money should be utilise.
