The hullaballoo surrounding the iron sheets scandal that has swallowed in many Museveni minister keeps spreading like wild fire. It all started with a tip off to the State House Anti- Corruption Unit which stormed Manafwa district, found OPM branded iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja.
Upon thorough investigations, the team landed on iron sheets at Minister Mary Goreti Kitutu mother’s home located in Situmi village, Bukhaweka parish, Bupoto sub-county in Manafwa district. Kitutu’s mother, brother and nephew were arrested and detained at Mayetse police station.
This ‘mabaati’ scandal has since engulfed in other Museveni ministers with some opening up on what exactly happened while others have remained mute. Agricultural junior Minister Bwino Kyakulaga revealed he indeed received the iron sheets and distributed them to a school and individuals in his constituency.

Former speaker and Minister for East African affairs Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga also revealed she requested for the iron sheets and distributed them to a health centre and a school in his constituency which had ragged down by hail storms.
The other people on the list of beneficiaries is prime minister Nabbanja, lands minister Judith Nabakooba, Minister for Cooperatives Ngobi Gume, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, government Chief Whip Denis Obua, Speaker Anita Among, State Minister for Disaster preparedness Grace Anyakun, junior minister for planning Amos Lugoloobi among others.
While speaking about the ‘Mabaati’ on Monday this week as parliament resumed business, speaker Anita Annet Among revealed how she found the iron sheets in her district Bukedea and instead gave them out to government schools.
While Minister Lugoloobi upon being quizzed by investigators who visited his farm in Misanga Village, Misanga parish in Bbale sub country in Kayunga district indeed accepted that he requested for the iron sheets which he had used to roof his goats house but he would later deroof the OPM branded sheets for fear of being followed a lot.
The office of the prime minister, the state house anti corruption unit, police and the parliament select committee on presidential affairs are all digging up investigations into the scandal and a lot is being unveiled.
Minister Kasaija while facing the select committee probing the ‘mabaati’ scandal revealed that he’s very innocent and he’s not even aware how iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja entered into his compound. The trending video has since caused mixed reactions.
“I was told it was supposed to support my constituency and true i have done that, precisely i have 450 iron sheets to a school which we finished the fundraising recently if you remember, the balance is still in my store in Kibale and am looking for who i give these”- says Minister Kasaija.
Matia Kasaija further requests not to be crucified much since he’s very innocent who only received a call that iron sheets had been allocated to his name from the Office of the prime minister.
Crucify knowing that am an innocent man on this issue, am totally innocent, i never asked for the iron sheets, the iron sheets found themselves in my compound”- Minister Kasaija told the legislators.

On her part, Minister Kitutu who is also facing calls to resign or risk being censored like Minister Namuganza has threatened to reveal all the untold stories behind the Karamoja iron sheets scandal and all those involved.
