AMUDAT: Karamoja has received it’s first heavy rains that have already caused flooding washing away bridges paralyzing transport in the region. This past weekend the region received heavy rains that caused flash flooding destroying community roads and some families in Amudat town council.

About eight households, spent a night at their neighborhoods after their houses flooded when the Kanyangaren river busted its banks.

Further the road that connects Mbale, Amudat via Karita is currently impassable and cut off following the collapse of some culverts and flooded at Karita bridge. The only road which is still fairly usable is the one connecting Amudat to Mbale via Nakapiripirit District.

While Moroto, Mbale via Nabilatuk road is more worse after the contractor meant to do road maintenance failed to do the work despite picking some huge cash from UNRA. From Napak to Abim Via Nyakwae sub county is also threatening should the rains continue.
Paul Lokol the District chairperson Nabilatuk District says the first rains have washed away some culverts put in place adding that if the rains continue, transport will be paralyzed.
Moses Lote a trader said transporting commodities from Mbale to Nabilatuk via Namalu town council is likely to be difficult.
“We don’t know what Uganda National Roads Authority is thinking about because most of these damaged road are under their care and works are supposed to be taking place”-he asserted.
