As the world celebrates Wildlife, the Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust programs officer for Kisoro, Claire Kahunzire has hailed the developmental contribution of Gorillas to the people of Kisoro.
March 3 is a United Nations International day to celebrate all the world’s wild animals and plants and the contribution that they make to our lives and the health of the planet.
BMCT has been one of a few conservation organisation Kigezi regions since 1994 with a major objective of bringing harmony between wildlife and communities around Mgahinga and Bwindi National parks.
She noted that celebrating World Wildlife day is of great importance because it creates awareness to communities on how wildlife can generate income to the country and its citizens.

Kahunzire says that BMCT has taken a step ahead by training and sensitizing locals in tourism hubs of the district on how to earn from tourism especially through community tourism and supporting reformed poachers to sustain themselves and end poaching.
She added that BMCT has also steadily resettled the Batwa, training them both in school and outside school on how to cope with life outside the forests.
Claire says that among other contributions that BMCT is proud of include Human-wildlife conflict resolution through planting thorny.
