MOROTO: The joint security forces in Karamoja have doubled their deployment along the major roads that connects Karamoja districts and the rest of the country.
The heavily deployment which is also targeting places of worship, drinking joints in the Karamoja towns is aimed at ensuring peace as the country is gearing up for the new year.
Micheal Longole the Karamoja regional police spokesperson says always criminals take advantage of public days such as this to launch their criminal activities when people are gathered to celebrate.

“We are not taking this celebrations slightly because the public always get together, drink and dance, so you find criminals also take that as advantage to carry out their mission, “he said.
According to Longole the security is also securing highways adding that many people working in Karamoja prefer to go and celebrate the Christmas with their relatives and that they should move safely
Mathew Loukai a resident of Lorengedwat trading centre in Nabilatuk district said the security both army and police started patrolling the town streets by 2am on Sunday this week.
“We hope we shall enjoy this day without any interruption by wrong éléments said.
According to Loukai if the joint security forces had been patrolling the high ways of Kotido, Moroto and Kaabong the way they are doing of today, there would be no road ambushes.
Elijah Lokol another resident of Ngoleriet sub county in Napak district said the soldiers and police have been patrolling the major high way of Moroto, Nakapiripirit to Amudat road.
“As we were coming from Amudat to Moroto this morning, we met with along line of police and army patrolling the road,”he said.
