Firebrand politician and the principal of National Unity Platform Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has in a shocker pleaded for justice for lawyer Male Mabirizi who is detained behind the big gates of Kitalya prison.
Male Mabirizi has been going after Bobi Wine with petitions against him and dragging the NUP principal in and out of court which many called witch hunt but since there are no permanent enemies in politics, Bobi Wine wants Mabirizi face fair trial.
In the months preceding to the presidential nominations in November 2020, Male Mabirizi dragged Bobi Wine to court accusing him of lying about his age from 1980 to 1982, the perennial litigant would later vow not to allow Bobi Wine appear on the ballot paper but his efforts yielded nothing as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) took it over and it was silenced.
Recently Mabirizi dragged Bobi Wine to a Law Development Centre (LDC) court over what he termed as illegal entry at Makerere University. The troubled lawyer was accusing Bobi Wine of getting admitted illegally at Uganda’s oldest university in the late 1990s and secure criminal summons against the Ghetto gradiator who paid a deaf ear to the rants.
However, as it was he case with the first attempt, DPP took over the case and subsequently dismissed the charges against Kyagulanyi claiming they had lost interest in pursuing the case to the very end.
Things turned around for Mabirizi who was sentenced to 18 months for contempt of court and was few days ago arrested from Kyambogo University main gate in Banda and has already started serving his sentence.
Many thought Bobi Wine would cheer on as his tormentor is locked but instead he’s called for a fair trial of the troubled lawyer raising mixed reactions with others saying the NUP boss is just playing his usual political games.
I've learnt of the arrest and detention of Mr. Male Mabirizi. He might have wronged some people but he's is entitled to due process of law. The judiciary and all law enforcement agencies must uphold his rights and freedoms and accord him his right to a fair trial. pic.twitter.com/y9HxcSHHWd
