A 29-year-old woman has been arrested in Adjumani District after allegedly stabbing another woman to death during a violent confrontation after reportedly finding her husband inside the victim’s house in the early hours of Friday.
Police identified the deceased as Andrubaku Grace, 32, a resident of Ajujo Village, Alere Parish, Pachara Sub-county, Adjumani District. The suspect, identified only as Alice, is also a resident of the same village and remains in custody at Adjumani Central Police Station.
According to police, the killing occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on May 2, 2026. North West Nile Regional Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly found her husband, identified as Adraca Alfred, engaged in sexual intercourse with the deceased inside Grace’s residence.
Police said the suspect then attacked the deceased and stabbed her multiple times using a sharp knife. The victim was rushed to Robidire Health Centre III for treatment but later died from the injuries. Her body was later transferred to Adjumani General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
A murder case was registered under Adj CRB 232/2026, and detectives, together with Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), visited and documented the scene. Regional Police spokesperson SP Asea Collins confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said investigations are ongoing.
“The suspect was arrested and is currently detained at CPS Adjumani. Statements from witnesses have been recorded, and ongoing inquiries are aimed at gathering further evidence to facilitate prosecution,” SP Collins said.
Police also confirmed that statutory forms PF 48A and PF 48B had been completed pending postmortem results and it was observed that both the deceased and the suspect’s husband were intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Investigators further noted that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds on the buttocks, abdomen, private parts and ears The Adjumani case comes amid continued concern over homicide and violent crime across Uganda.
According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025, the country recorded 4,248 murder cases in 2025, reflecting the persistence of serious violent offences despite an overall decline in general crime.
The same report shows that crimes involving sharp objects, domestic disputes, alcohol-related violence and personal conflicts remain significant contributors to homicide investigations.
Human rights organisations in Uganda have also consistently raised concern over increasing cases of gender-based violence, domestic conflict and delayed justice processes that often escalate into fatal incidents.
Police in the West Nile sub-region have in recent months investigated several killings linked to domestic disputes, land wrangles, mob action and revenge attacks, prompting calls for stronger community dispute resolution and preventive policing.
The suspect remains in custody as detectives finalize inquiries before forwarding the case file for sanction and prosecution.
