Media reports in Daily Monitor have quoted NRM CEC contestant Moses Karangwa as de-campaigning some of his opponents for the position of NRM vice chairperson for central region by saying the position needs someone who isn’t a minister and generally not busy.
Karangwa’s logic is that the person who has nothing else to do can have enough time to concentrate on mobilization. If that were true, NRM and Mzee wouldn’t have lost Buganda because the current party vice chairman Godfrey Kiwanda has been free. He hasn’t been an MP and hasn’t been a minister. And going by Karangwa’ logic, Kiwanda has had enough time to popularize NRM in the central.
From what we clearly see in the media, the NRM support hasn’t improved in central in the last five years-counting from 2020 yet Kiwanda has been free from that time up to now.
He was defeated and dropped out of the MP race for Mityana north in 2020 and was also removed from cabinet the following year. How come NRM continues to be at its weakest in Buganda yet the vice chair for that region has been free for these five years? How has Kiwanda used that time to increase NRM’s popularity?
That reasoning is cheap and simplistic. Mike Mukula for eastern region isn’t an MP, he isn’t a minister either but still there are delegates who think things haven’t gone well and they want him out. What does Karangwa say to all those delegates? Is he going to go to war with all of them?
Is Karangwa trying to criticize the President who is the NRM party chairman nationally, the commander-in-chief, visitor to all public universities and is also the head of state at the same time? Hasn’t he performed well as leader of the country and the party also? What does Karangwa say about that?
Why is Karangwa indirectly de-campaigning Speaker Anita Among for the CEC position? She is the woman MP Bukedea, NRM chair in her district and is also speaker of parliament. This is a lot of work but she is managing well because is energetic and focused.
She is joining CEC soon. Does Karangwa mean to say that all party delegates who are going to make her the second national vice for the party, are fools? Does he mean to say they are not aware that she holds all these positions?
Why is Karangwa indirectly de-campaigning Jim Muhwezi or even Chris Baryomunsi who is doing a good job as CEC rep for western region yet at the same time he is a minister and MP for Kinkizi East? Mr. Karangwa you had better come with a better message concerning your manifesto rather than de-campaigning the movement’s leaders in the mighty NRM party by saying it’s not good for CEC to have members who are already ministers or MPs.
Bwana Karangwa please, learn it from me right here that there is nothing wrong with any leader of the movement to be part of parliament, part of the executive and part of CEC at the same time. This is a strength because it increases harmonization in decision making at all these levels for as long as NRM remains the ruling party for Uganda.
