Since falling out with Bobi Wine and getting expelled from all positions he was holding in the national unity platform party, the Oweekitiibwa Mathias Mpuuga has suffered numerous defeats and episodes of political embarrassment.
His biggest waterloo came during the burial of Muhammad Ssegirinya in Kaddugala last February. Ssegirinya’s burial ground is in Nyendo Mukungwe for which Mpuuga has been the area MP since defeating JD Kawanga in 2011.
Yet even when this is his constituency, Mr. 500 failed to prevail. It was shameful and showed extreme weakness that a whole Oweekitiibwa wouldn’t win against Kyagulanyi at Ssegirinya’s burial yet this was in his constituency.
He had been given all the money he required from Parliament but still the Oweekitiibwa failed to take charge and was clearly beaten by Kyagulanyi and Joel Ssenyonyi who don’t even come from Masaka.
The security operatives deployed that day were all on his side and the area RDCs too but the Owekitiibwa still failed to show any political muscle and ended up being humiliated by a group of foot soldiers who were commandeered by mayor Florence Namayanja, an elderly lady.
He had the nice tents plus enough refreshments for every mourner to eat and drink but still Mr. 500 died in his movie.
He was alone at the play ground with a few supporters like Abed Bwanika, Lubega Mukaku, Nyendo mayor Nakku Musana and woman MP Juliet Kakande and a few people. The larger group went to the home where Kyagulanyi was.
That failure to have a large team of supporters to put up a fight and make things hard for Kyagulanyi exposed the Oweekitiibwa even in Kampala amongst his supporters and potential funders who believed he would be facilitated to disorganize Kyagulanyi at least in Masaka.
More embarrassment came when the DA group he formed suffered a still birth more less like Muntu’s New Formation. Mpuuga went on to form groups of DA coordinators to prepare for 2026 but many of these denied him saying they are NUP and hadn’t even been consulted.
DP called a press conference at which party members cursed Mpuuga for making them DA coordinators without prior consultation.
Even the teams of social media warriors which had been created to fight Kamwokya and Kavule on tiktok have all collapsed because the tiktokers don’t see any future for DA, they have become demoralized. Tik tokers who were on weekly facilitation don’t get the dimes anymore and they are now reluctant to fight for Mpuuga.
With potential funders getting demoralised, Mpuuga’s original plan to run for presidency is clearly suffering still birth. There are indicators he will be going back for the Nyendo Mukungwe mp seat where he won’t be able to win without Bobi Wine’s endorsement.
His popularity level is low because he has been mp for now 15 years and young voters want a new face. Children who were three years when he first became MP in 2011 are going to be first time voters in 2026. But lack of options is forcing him back to Nyendo Mukungwe where things aren’t going to be easy either.
The catholic priests and Buganda kingdom officials who were backing him at first against NUP are now demoralized having realized that Kyagulanyi still has a lot of support among the young people and first time voters who are the majority and very energetic.
Dangerous substitute- Kyagulanyi has finally found a strong candidate to beat Mpuuga hands down in Nyendo Mukungwe. This is none other than Sam Muyizi a Kampala lawyer. His father was the Pokino which means Kabaka’s county chief for Masaka-Buddu. Muyizi is one of the most successful kids to his father and has a lot of support from the catholic and Buganda kingdom establishment. This is why even ex-Katikkiro Mulwanyamuli is behind him.
Muyizi comes from the UYD background and he is a wealthy man with a good CV. He currently heads the valuation court at KCCA and has a good relationship even with other opposition leaders like Erias Lukwago, Kizza Besigye and others.
He is among Besigye’s lawyers in the treason case and has been representing all opposition political prisoners in court since the year 2005 when he had completed LDC. He is a social person who supports a lot of community causes in Masaka.
Being fronted by Kyagulanyi even increases his chances. He is already on the ground working very well with other NUP diehards like mayor Florence Namayanja and the entire foot soldiers fraternity.
He has already launched his campaign committees and Bobi Wine is ready to give him the ticket and do everything else to make sure he wins-and winning he will because of the ever growing support Bobi enjoys in Masaka city and beyond.
This is why there is a lot of panic in the Mpuuga camp. They have resorted to propaganda and a few days ago, Mpuuga’s supporters used photoshop and came up with chemical trying to discredit Muyizi by way of propagating fake news about his very beautiful dear wife Olivia Mugabe who works at one of the embassies in Kampala.
They got her poster and added there the NRM symbol to show she is standing in NRM primaries for Bukoto west in Lwengo which isn’t true.
Mugabe, then an NGO worker, stood for the mp seat in 2021. This was for Bukoto west mp in Lwengo district where she hails from. She was an NUP-leaning independent and the likes of Aziz Azion and Kabako (both of whom are key Bobi allies) were external coordinators to her campaign effort.
She was in the same race with veteran Museveni supporter capt Mulindwa Birimumaaso and Muhammad Muyanja Muzamir Ssentayi who carried the NRM flag and won the seat.
Birimumaaso is the NRM chairman for the constituency but lost party primaries to Ssentayi and came as an independent. Mugabe finished 3rd and challenged the NRM winner Ssentayi in court but her petition was dismissed by judge Esta Nambayo.
She has never been NRM, given her civil society orientation. She actually isn’t standing for Bukoto west mp seat again. She only stood in 2021 on independent against several NRM candidates and she isn’t standing again.
She is dedicating her entire time and energy on Nyendo Mukungwe to support her dear husband Sam Muyizi to win against the kiwaani masters who are working for Mpuuga. Gratefully, they are not that many. They are very few and are working with some tik tokers to spread the fake news.
Their latest fake news, aimed at making Bobi distrust Muyizi, was being amplified by well known Mpuuga supporters like Kayita Sserubiri who is a PA to both Bwanika and Mpuuga; an old DP woman called Nakato Wa Bitaano from Makindye and mayor Nakku Musana.
They were aided by a few actors from makerere bursar Gyaviira Sebiina’s camp. Gyaviira has been putting in money and badly wants the NUP ticket for Nyendo Mukungwe even when he knows that Kavule decided already to give it to Muyizi.
Gyaviira’s supporters amplified the fake news linking Olivia Mugabe to NRM because they think such can influence Bobi to lose trust in his man Sam Muyizi and give them the ticket which is not going to happen because Magere is clear on who he is convinced can manage Mpuuga for him in Masaka.
Olivia Mugabe is these days frequently in Nyendo Mukungwe’s 14 parishes and having been rigged out by the NRM goons in 2021, she isn’t even standing anywhere for the mp Seat in 2026.
The Mpuuga supporters used photoshop and manipulated her 2021 campaign poster to add the ruling party symbol to create confusion that she was returning to Bukoto west on the NRM ticket whereas not.

Not the first time-This manipulation of images and videos is exactly to what Mpuuga’s supporters have been doing to Joel Sebyonyi, Rubongoya, Fred Nyanzi and Bobi Wine himself. They have always put effort in deceiving people on tik tok that all these NUP top leaders are working for NRM and Museveni which is false and untrue.
They one time forged videos and images to portray Ssenyonyi as corrupt and picking bribes when he was still the Cosase chairman which was all lies.
They are very good at this type of propaganda game and they do it each time their man Mpuuga comes under political pressure. They have always used such propaganda to decieve that Bobi Wine and other NUP officials are against the catholic church, Mengo and the Kabaka as a person.
They are good at using tik tok photoshopped and manipulated optics to destroy the image of those who challenge their political status quo and now Sam Muyizi has become their prime target because they have concluded that he is the man Kyagulanyi has chosen to defeat their principal Mathias Mpuuga.
The bad news for them is that the people of Masaka babuufu, they are politically alert, and determined to send Mathias Mpuuga to the political dust bin of history come 2026.
