Lira district National Resistance Movement chairperson of Lira District, Sam Engola on Tuesday subjected the opposition UPC members to a tough time at a funeral ceremony of the fallen renowned Cadre.

Tonny Oteng, a renowned National Resistance Movement strongman, who served as councilor representing Bar sub county to Lira district Local Government passed on last week and the burial took place at his ancestral home in Abolet trading centre, Itek sub county in Lira district.

Itek is one of the sub counties in Erute South constituency in Lira district, which is well-known as a stronghold for the UPC party, and the same constituency which an infamous and unruly Odur Jonathan, represents in the 11th Parliament.

A verbal war erupted at the funeral when every UPC supporter who had the opportunity to speak, took it upon themselves to castigate the ruling party, something which didn’t go well with the party chairman Engola and other members of the NRM.

The UPC members blamed the ruling party for underdevelopment and making empty promises in the district. The UPC members further accused the ruling party of neglecting the fallen party stalwarts when they die.

Even MP Odur himself sent a representative, whose words did not comfort the family of the deceased, who believed so much in the leadership of the NRM government under the chairmanship of His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In his address, after all the UPC members had uttered their lies about the ruling party, Sam Engola, who is also the Ex-lands State Minister, Northern Vice Chairperson of the NRM and the current Lango Senior Presidential Advisor, strongly refuted the claims saying NRM is always committed to fulfilling the pledges made to the electorates and that the claims by the opposition are baseless.

Engola, who is also the clan head of Otikokin clan (one of the most powerful clans in under Lango Cultural Foundation) brought to the attention of the public that, before even engaging the party, himself and the family has supported all the families wives and children of the deceased NRM Cadres who previously died.

Engola observed that politicians should be banned from campaigning or speaking politics at the funerals because the lies they utter at such gatherings always promote disunity and discomfort the deceased’s relatives.

“If you hate NRM, don’t use burial to spread your lies to divide people, go to the marketplace to discuss your propaganda,” he castigated the opposition.

He warned “whatever you are perpetrating against the ruling party will never convert the majority of Lango who support NRM to opposition”

He appealed to the leaders who are still in the opposition to take shelter in the ruling party, assuring them that NRM is still in power and will retain it in the next general elections with General Museveni as the Commander in charge.

Engola delivered NRM Secretariat’s condolence contribution from Secretary General, Richard Todwong to the family, pleading to connect the family to the president for more support to the widow.
