Catholic faithfuls, political figures, and members of the business community thronged in a spirit of jubilation from with in and outside Lira City St. Peters Church Anai to be witnesses and celebrate the elevation of this church from a sub-parish to a fully fledged parish in Lira Diocese.
The event which was graced by Bishop Sanctus Linos Wanok attracted thousands of christians and among these was Lira’s finest Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng the women member of parliament for Lira city and also the Minister of Health.
Minister extended her generosity by contributing Shs20m which will go towards purchasing chairs for the newly elevated St. Peter Catholic Parish. Dr. Aceng pledged to continue supporting the community and re-affirmed her commitment in response to the outporing support.
The newly elevated Catholic parishioners acknowledged the significant challenge of financing a church and expressed gratitude to Minister Aceng for her steadfast support. Bishop Sanctus Linos Wanok of Lira Diocese praised the minister for her generosity to the people of Lira.
The Bishop also emphasized the importance of promoting harmony and communal growth through altruistic deeds.
This contribution by Dr. Aceng to the new parish comes a few days after the Minister dipped a hand in her pocket and supported the rehabilitation of a one kilometer road in Lira City in addition to the hundreds of women SACCOs she has supported for the few years she has been in parliament.
