In the news this evening, president Museveni has named Justice Zeija Flavian as the new Deputy Chief Justice replacing Justice Richard Butera who is retiring in April this year after clocking 70 years.
Justice Zeija Flavian has until the time of his new appointment been the principal judge since 25th December 2019. His appointment now leaves a vacancy of the Principal judge who is the administrative head of the High Court.

According to the statement released by the Judicial Service Commission this evening, Museveni also appointed Eight Justices of the Court of appeal/Constitutional Court, one justice of the Supreme court and 21 judges of the High Court but in acting capacity for a period of two years.
Additionally, the commission also revealed that embattled Justice Faridah Bukirwa has been re-appointed in acting capacity to the High Court after disciplinary proceedings against her were concluded and cleared.
“The President in exercise of his powers under Article 142 (1), and (2) of the Constitution has appointed the Deputy Chief Justice, one Justice of the Supreme Court and eight Justices of the Court of Appeal”-the statement reads in part.
