PAUL MUGOYA: Uganda Slipping Into Political Uncertainty

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

For long Uganda has struggled to uphold and maintain constitutionalism under a democratic space. The NRM government under General Museveni introduced a seeming system of democracy but has been undermined by greed, absolute power, and corruption.

The open inclusiveness introduced in the then NRM government would have been a solution to the political impasse the country has been engulfed into and has been endlessly going through since independence.

Uganda needs to transit to a transition to have a peaceful transition. This will come about only by agreeing to have a government of national unity. The only person who has the key to enable it to happen is President Museveni.

If President Museveni remains seriously committed to the revolution he started, which was meant to observe the values of good governance, to sanitize the governance of this country in the interest of Uganda and as a patriotic Ugandan, then why should he become a bottleneck or a hurdle for this country to continue to have a peaceful future?

There should be a roadmap for a national reconciliation to be drawn. This will include adopting proposals on reforms in the way our country can well be governed in the future. We need a Constitutional Review.

But all this will depend on the goodwill of the sitting President by relinquishing most of his powers for peace. 40 years is a long time and the President has to be appreciative to Ugandans just the same Ugandans have appreciated him in return.

To achieve this, there will be a Truth and Reconciliation Commission established to look into the past and present to determine where we all went wrong because it takes 2 to tangle.

Ugandans should start learning from the wars in Congo, Israel, Sudan, Myanmar, Somalia, Ukraine, etc. They are good examples to learn from because each war is unique but with a common factor. Pan-Africanism and Patriotism call for resolutions to prevent wars and we can do it here. We should try all the ways to avoid slipping into political uncertainty. Let’s put aside the arrogance and the founder’s influence and the opposition has to understand that without the incumbency involvement, nothing will be achieved.

Let’s prevent wars from happening in Uganda again. We should allow a sitting President and his family a peaceful and happy retirement like it is in developed countries. Aluta Continua and Clean Leadership, Unity and Peace.

Mugoya Paul Polly, a concerned Citizen and a Peace monger.
