Education Minister Janet Kataha Museveni has, in writing, directed her Ministry technocrats to undertake urgent interventions and ensure that Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) facilities at Alwek and Arumai primary schools are immediately rehabilitated.
Minister Janet has directed that this rehabilitation intervention be undertaken under the Gender for Development Initiative, which is supported and funded by the European Union through the Education Ministry.
The First Lady asserts that this intervention is consistent with her Ministry and GoU’s commitment to improve the learning environment while promoting gender-sensitive education in the country.
The First Lady, who shares deep spiritual devotion with Aceng who she likes referring to as my “colleague sister,” makes it clear that she has decided to intervene in the situation to make sanitation and hygiene infrastructure work and serve pupils better at the two public schools following effective and relentless lobbying by the Lira City Woman MP Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng who is also the Minister of Health for Uganda.
Having the situation at Alwek and Arumai primary schools remedied was among campaign promises and pledges Aceng made as she sought to become the pioneer Woman MP for Lira City during the year 2020-2021.
Janet Museveni has since done the needful and wished Jane Ruth Aceng the best of luck in the forthcoming political season as the WASH intervention gets rolled out at the two public primary schools.
The Janet intervention has since eased up life for political cadres campaigning for Aceng’s reelection in 2026 and the WASH infrastructure to be rehabilitated is already being referenced as evidence or proof of the fact that Aceng always keeps her word and delivers, unlike other female politicians who are always opportunistic and self-seeking.
