A man from Kisoro District is facing a financial dilemma after the bank froze his account, where over 500 million UGX was deposited, pending an explanation of the money’s origin.
The man, identified only as Andrew for security reasons, won the substantial amount through Uganda Bettors Association’s fixed games. Without a bank account at the time of the win, Andrew was advised to open one, which he did immediately.
An insider revealed, “He joined the Uganda Bettors Association and won, but because the account was newly opened, the bank froze the funds and demanded proof of the source.”
Andrew explained that the money was legitimately earned from his winning bets. “I subscribed to the Uganda Bettors Association, placed a stake, and received a confirmation ticket. I didn’t have a bank account then, so I was advised to open one. Two days after doing so, the money was deposited, but the bank froze the account, requesting confirmation of the money’s source,” he said.
Andrew provided the bank with the winning receipt and other required documents and has been told to wait for further review of the matter.]
