National Unity Platform boss Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine is currently bedridden at Nsambya hospital where he was rushed last evening after a brutal scuffle with Uganda police and the military while returning from a thanksgiving organized by one of his party lawyers George Musisi.
In the scuffle, Bobi Wine got injured on the leg. It was earlier reported that he was shot with a bullet but later it turned out that a tear gas canister aimed at the NUP president hit his leg and reports from Nsambya hospital indicate that he will undergo an operation to remove the fragments.

A police statement last evening ruled out a possible attack on Bobi Wine and instead indicated that Bobi Wine stumbled while getting into his car hence injuring himself but a video posted on Bobi Wine’s X account shows something which seems to have been a tear gas canister is seen exploding on Bobi Wine’s leg.
This new development now punches holes in both police’s statement which say it’s officers at the scene never aimed at injuring Bobi Wine whom they says injured himself but the force promised to carry out investigations and come clean with facts.
Police further says demonstrators or rioters are not enemies of the police but they’re temporary opponents. Kituuma Rusoke the police spokesperson also says issues contributing to such incidents include hooliganism and communication breakages but can be avoided if police is engaged effectively to foster harmonious interactions.
“In the course of stone throwing, three officers were injured with one in serious condition. The windshields of two police vehicles were shattered”-police statement reads in part.
Several politicians have lashed out at police of the high handedness even where it is not necessary leading to such brutal confrontations.
I’ve just caught up with what happened last evening in Bulindo, Kira. The horrible outcome of what, as usual, is totally uncalled for police aggression against political “opposition” leaders.

The @PoliceUg brutal and high-handed attack on @HEBobiwine is something every right thinking Ugandan must condemn. We pray for Mr Kyagulanyi’s quick recovery, and demand that the Police explain this high-handedness. pic.twitter.com/WxUmHowSAg
