News has been making rounds of how the staff at Uganda Investment Authority had awarded themselves an amount almost similar to that of What Mathias Mpuuga took home from parliament as a service award of Shs500m.
According to the Junior Minister in charge of Investments Hon Evelyn Anite, the staff at UIA curved off over Shs500m from loan money meant to develop the Namanve Industrial Park in Mukono district.
In a letter seen by this publication, the UIA board Chair Morrison Rwakakamba ordered the Uganda Investment bosses to put in consideration the directives of Minister Evelyn Anite of returning the money they awarded themselves.
“I find the above despicable, uncouth, barbaric and uncultured that people who have been tasked with the responsibility of delivering such a project with in 5 years not only have they underperformed but also they chest thumping and dishing themselves huge sums of the project money”- reads part of Anite’s Letter.
Now after making the deal public and exposing the worst happening in the Uganda Investment Authority, Minister Evelyn Anite has revealed that the UIA staff have agreed to return the money they paid themselves as honoraria (service award) to have the issue sorted amicably.
Fellow citizens, thank you very much for all your support to me in the fight against corruption. The good news is the DG @mukiza_robert has agreed to refund the money he & team received from the infrastructure loan, which Ugandan taxpayers will have to pay back with interest. pic.twitter.com/O3FQET3DNj
