The Financial year 2023/24 is soon coming to an end, parliament is done with scrutinizing budget frame works, ministerial policy statements among other things involved in processing the national budget.
What takes centre stage whenever a new financial year is starting are the new taxes which take serious toll on the natives. For example government has proposed taxes on Fuel, Kerosene and Land Sale transactions. Government in this coming financial year is introducing a shs500 levy on every bag of Cement, Shs75 on every litre of bottled water among other things.

According to the State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi, these new taxes will help government raise money to fund the 2024/25 Shs58 trillion budget where a whooping Shs24.9 trillion of the Shs58trillion of the budget is going to repaying debts and interests.
Normally before the national budget is read to the nation, Museveni addresses the country in what is called the State of The Nation Address which comes just one week to the National Budget reading.
According to Speaker Anita Among, president Museveni confirmed to her that the State of the Nation Address will happen on the 6th of June 2024 ahead of the National Budget reading on 13th June 2024 which normally corresponds with all the other East African Community States [all read their budgets on the same day].
This years Speech and budget will be the second last in this term ahead of the next general election happening early in 2026. All the signs show the now 80 year old Museveni will be seeking to extend his grip to power to 45 years having consumed 38 years already.
