Principal of National Unity Platform Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was on the streets of Kampala last night to donate to the street kids and people living on the streets.
Bobi Wine who was in company of his team with party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya donated several items including food to the people on the streets. He says these people end up on the streets for different reasons so they thought it prudent to reach out to them.
The Kampala Capital City Authority has carried several operations on city streets and arrested several street kids who mostly are Karamojongs. These are taken to rehabilitation centres and later dropped back to Karamoja through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
It’s also criminal to donate or give money to these street kids according to an ordinance put in place by KCCA. According to a 2022 ordinance, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) can punish people who violat the KCCA Child Protection Ordinance. The ordinance makes it illegal for Children to loiter, beg, sell things or hawk in public places.
The ordinance also empowers KCCA to rescue children found begging or soliciting on the streets. It addresses indirect forms of child exploitation as well, including cases where children are used to solicit alms while being propelled in a wheelchair.

Furthermore, the comprehensive approach of the ordinance extends to activities that encourage children to remain on the streets. This includes distributing items such as food, money, or clothing to children on the streets, as well as luring children away from the streets only to return them for group activities.
Several netizens have hit Bobi Wine’s comment section, some appreciating his good heart while others are condemning his actions saying his actions are encouraging saying they’re encouraging more kids to the streets.
Often times police has nabbed criminals on the streets disguising as beggars. They last year picked an ADF rebel from Jinja streets who was disguising as a beggar. Another street beggar in a wheel chair was nabbed with a gun on Kampala streets.
Last night, we visited the streets of Kampala to share some food with our people who are homeless. Only those who have slept hungry for lack of food or slept on the street before would understand the pain which these people go through every day.
