Former NSSF Managing Director Chandi Jamwa has a reason to be happy after being pardoned and forgiven by President Yoweri Museveni.
The jailed former NSSF boss tops a lost of 10 inmates who have been offered forgiveness under the presidential prerogative of mercy as seen in the list shared by prisons spokesperson Frank Baine.

President Yoweri Museveni’s instrument of pardon stated that, In the exercise of the power vested in me under article 121 (a) of the constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995 as amended and on advice of the advisory Committee on the prerogative of mercy, I hereby grant pardon to the persons below on health and humanitarian grounds.”-reads the document in part.
Chandi Jamwa was convicted to 12 years for abuse of office and causing the NSSF a financial loss of Shs3billion by the Anti-Corruption Court.
He was accused of selling government bonds held by NSSF before their maturity date to the defunct Crane Bank and at a price below their value in 2007. NSSF got Shs36 billion instead of an expected Shs39billion from the bonds.
He was sent to the cold gates of Luzira prison on 15th Jan 2018 and after serving 6 years out of the 12 years President Museveni has forgiven him.
The others on the list include Ntale Vincent who was serving a four and half sentence, Drabo Nelson (20 years sentence), Omirambe James (6 years sentence), Alama Samuel, Leku Francis, Kabila Joseph (all serving years sentence), Yoha Ayitia (4 years sentence), Kato Fred(7 years sentence), Okello Zakaria(5 years sentence), Nono Joseph (5 years sentence), Ouma Mesach John (7 years sentence) all for Defilement and Owino Jackson (6 years sentence) for manslaughter.
