Nyendo-Mukungwe Division legislator in the 11th parliament Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba has handed over office to his successor in the Leader of Opposition in parliament’s office where he’s served for the last two and half years.
Mpuuga was handed the juicy job of being the Leader of Opposition in parliament in 2021 as his party National Unity Platform unveiled their shadow cabinet in parliament was tasked to command and lead the opposition views in the august house.

While giving his last speech in parliament on Tuesday as Leader of Opposition, Mpuuga thanked parliament for according him support and creating a very good working relationship. He urged colleague MPs to accord the same to the new office bearer Joel Ssenyonyi.
Ssenyonyi was appointed the new LoP by his party National Unity Platform on 22nd December after getting him COSASE where he was chairman of the committee and he served well and sometimes rubbing those in power wrongly especially on the Uganda Airlines and Civil aviation authority where many facts were uncovered.
Many voices from the opposition especially NUP didn’t like Mpuuga’s approach while opposing the Museveni regime which many say needs some one aggressive but not a diplomat of Mpuuga’s caliber but he’s not been different from his predecessors like Wafula Oguttu, Winnie Kiiza, Betty Aol Ochan, Moris Ogenga Latigo and Nathan Nandala Mafabi.
But also NUP was just putting the precedence set by the FDC of Opposition leaders in parliament serving for only Two and half years. Now eyes are on Ssenyonyi whether he will offer the aggressiveness needed to check Museveni’s government as many have seen him not being a perfect fit for the position being a first time parliamentarian.
