How Speaker Anita Among Deflated Zaake In Parliament

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The speaker of parliament Anita Among has made a tough come back on Zaake following their differences that Zaake says stem from way back when the Late Jacob Oulanyah was still speaker and since then the two have never mended their friendship and by the look of things, seems they will never get back to a friendship zone again.

In 2022 after comments she made while congratulating the Parliamentary team for performing well at the East African parliamentary games, speaker Anita Among took a swipe at Zaake and said he claims to have been tortured but he managed to win 100meters in the competitions that were hosted in Arusha Tanzania.

This prompted Zaake to go to his twitter handle and bust out all his anger and it’s said he used inappropriate language against the speaker. She made sure he’s thrown out of the parliamentary commission a juicy job that Bobi Wine gave him with two hands but it was never sweet.

Process by process, it started with the Abdul Katuntu’s rules committee that handled Zaake’s disciplinary sessions, recommended he’s punished, Bardege-Layibi Division legislator Ojara Mapenduzi suggested amendments to the report and included that Zaake be thrown out of the parliamentary commission.

Parliamentary overwhelmingly ganged up against Zaake in a session where the complainant was the judge. Zaake ran to court which last year ordered he’s reinstated to the parliamentary commission with immediate effect. This happiness was short-lived as the Attorney General appealed the ruling something that locked Zaake out of the Commission a bit more longer.

On 22nd December, National Unity Platform secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya announced the new parliamentary opposition leadership where Mpuuga was dropped as Leader of opposition and replaced with Nakawa West legislator Joel Ssenyonyi. Mpuuga was sent to the parliamentary commission to fill the position left vacant by Zaake after being thrown out.

The Honorable John Baptist Nambeshe retained his position as the Opposition Chief Whip and Zaake Francis was appointed Shadow Minister for presidency and Deputy Opposition Chief Whip. Upon the appointment, Zaake spelt doom for speaker Anita Among who he promised she won’t have a smooth ride with him as the Deputy Opposition Chief Whip.

Parliament having gone for the Christmas holiday recess resumed business today and top on the agenda was approving the new NUP party parliamentary leadership. However, Hon Zaake who came expecting to be approved as the opposition Deputy Chief Whip was deflated when Speaker Among told the bitter truth on his that the position he was given is non-existent and was served hot air by his party boss Kyagulanyi.

All the pleas by the Opposition Chief Whip John Baptist Nambeshe’s attempts to designate Zaake to the two positions of Minister for president and Deputy Opposition Chief Whip was all watered down by the speaker forcing the opposition to rescind on such.

According to Anita Among such a position which was given to Zaake does not exist in the rules of procedure, what’s provided for is the Opposition Chief Whip but not deputy Opposition Chief Whip.

Despite Zaake replacing Jinja’s Manjeri Kyebakutika in the same position, it remains a question of what his predecessor was serving or another line for Anita Among to settle scores using parliament like she reportedly did to Minister Persis Namuganza and all the other people who have disagreed with her.

This comes at the time when Zaake is facing two disciplinary cases in the Abdul Katuntu led Committee since last year, one for sabotaging Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa when he was chairing plenary and another for calling Rakai Women Member of parliament Juliet Kinyamatama a prostitute.
