Kampala roads have been trending for the better part of this year 2023 ever since the Kampala potholes expo sanctioned by cartoonist Dr Spire Sentongo where netizens exposed pot holes in their area codes something which dragged authorities from their comfort zones.
KCCA bosses have been having sleepless nights over the potholes which keep ‘germinating’ on Kampala roads each and every day which little one’s transitioning into ‘mature pot holes’ leaving city dwellers fearing the potholes might go an extra mile and transition into rivers, lakes and dams hence start ‘harboring’ snakes, crocodiles, hipos and turn into fishing grounds.

The potholes in Kampala’s industrial area can only be maneuvered by big tracks but not simple cars of the average Kampala dwellers but the pace at which authorities are fixing this problem is too worrying since by the time they finish filling the potholes with either clay soil, marrum or tarmac parches, others would have grown into big threatening potholes leaving city dwellers with no option but calling for fresh re-construction of majority of Kampala roads.
Two weeks ago, news made rounds when Museveni’s son Muhoozi Keinerugaba was pictured inspecting Kampala roads with several KCCA bosses including ED Dorothy Kisaka. This left many questioning and the lord mayor Elias Lukwago had no kind words for Muhoozi and SFC which has since landed a lucrative deal of fixing the potholes in Kampala.
There would be a sigh of relief as government prepares for several summits early next year that will draw delegates from accross the world. This is the reason some works are taking place to fix some potholes ahead of the summits especially the G77 summit, the Non Aligned Movement summit (NAM) and the Common Wealth Speakers’ conference all set to happen in January next year.
However, among those unhappy with potholes on Kampala is Key Museveni minister who has since threatened to go on a hunger strike is Minister Margret Muhanga who is disturbed by the potholes which she even suggests are on sale.
“I’m going on hunger strike next week coz of potholes, gullies, swimming pools, anthills, rivers and lakes etc on every road. Are the potholes in Kampala on promotion nowadays? Banange tugoingewa?”-Muhanga posted on X formerly twitter
For starters Margret is an MP in the 11th parliament as the member of parliament representing Fort portal city’s Northern division on the NRM ticket and also a state minister for health in charge of primary health care. But served as woman MP for Kabarole district and also Burahya county in western Uganda.
She’s famous for being a sister to veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda and commander land forces Kayanja Muhanga. She was seven years ago embroiled in a land saga where she bought off 23.1 acres of UBC land worth. She bought the land Shs10.2billion and while being grilled by Abdu Katuntu’s COSASE in 2016, she said she sold off her cows, goats and everything to get that money but court would later rule and land was returned to UBC.
