Re-elected Forum for Democratic Change Patrick Oboi Amuriat is not happy with how several serious FDC leaders have ditched Najjanankumbi and no longer attend important events organized by the party for reasons he’s not aware.

In a photo making rounds on social media, a visibly disappointed and frustrated Amuriat is seen weeping, he failed to control his tears as only of the 32 FDC legislators, only 3 made it to the National Council session which met to iron out and forge a way forward for the party ahead of the 2026 General elections where Bugisu Corporative boss and Budadiri west legislator has already declared interest to hold the FDC ticket.

The only legislators who made it the event which was convened by the party president Amuriat were Geofrey Ekanya, Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Yusuf Nsibambi who are also top bosses in the party Treasurer General, Secretary General, Bugnda region Vice president and FDC whip in parliament.

The very vibrant group of legislators with the Aga Isabirye, Timothy Batuwa, Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda, Francis Mwijukye, Anna Ebaju Adeke, Alobo Joan, Namanya Naboth, Busingye Joab, former Leader of Opposition Betty Aol Ochan among others were all a no show at Amuriat’s event. This raises concerns whether majority of these are now affiliated to Besigye’s Katonga faction.

This steps in FDC after top secrets leaked to the public where the then Treasurer general Jack Sabiiti, his deputy Geofrey Ekanya together with Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi and party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat reportedly received huge cash from Museveni to run their 2021 presidential campaign trails. The differences continue splitting the party.

At the pick of the accusations where top party bosses were pointing fingers at each other, Nandala Mafabi and POA contend that Kiiza Besigye wants to take the party to Bobi Wine’s NUP while the Kiiza Besigye side continue accusing the Nandala, POA factions of hatching plans to take FDC to Museveni just lie Norbert Mao and Jimmy Akena did to DP and UPC respectively.

Katonga through Chairman Amb Waswa Birigwa would later organize a delegates conference which ended in running battles with police but ousted POA, Nandala and their subordinates and replaced them with Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago, Ssemuju Nganda among others.

Najjanankumbi also organized a delegates conference summoned by the party electoral chairperson Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda. The highly guarded Delegates conference re-elected Nandala Mafabi and Patick Oboi Amuriat as Secretary General and party president respectively.

Ahead of the 2026 general elections where president Museveni has already shown signs and symptoms of contesting to extend his grip to power to 45 years, FDC remains in shambles with both sides not ready to negotiate with the other to get back the old vibrant FDC as sources claim Katonga may end up forming their own party or form a coalition with Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform.

Its also said that many first time and second time legislators fear to rub shoulders with Najjanankumbi for ear of risking their re-election since POA and Nandala and largely seen as hypocrites quit the sruggle to end the junta but decided to follow their hearts in a proverbial decision of IF YOU CAN’T WIN THEM, JOIN THEM.

Now with majority of legislators ditching POA and his group, the question remains whether FDC party will get back to it’s realms of vibrancy.
