In the news this evening, first lady Janet Kataha Museveni has tested positive for Covid-19 from their country home in Rwakitura in Kiruhura district where the First Family headed for Christmas holidays.
According to president Museveni who revealed the development via his X former Twitter handle said the first lady started feeling unwell in the throat, Rapid Corona Tests were done and returned negative. It’s until they sent another sample to Mbarara for PCR tests which came back positive.

“We, therefore, decided for Maama to self-isolate in one of the hoses at Rwakyitura while I continue with the programmes that we had arranged not ones where Maama was involved. That is why we could not go to Kyankwanzi or to Hon. Kaboyo’s function.”-Museveni posted

On Christmas day, after a family lunch, Maama Janet started feeling kukarakaatwa (sandy feeling) in the throat. We did a Rapid Corona test, which was negative. However, we sent another sample to Mbarara for PCR test and it came back Positive.

President Museveni who never allows any one who has not tested for Covid-19 to come close to him or even attend events where he’s involved got sick of Covid-19 in the first week of June this year and delegated his tasks to prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who even presided over the Heroes Day celebrations in Kakumiro district on 09th une 2023 since the Vice President was representing him in Lusaka Zambia at COMESA summit.
