Last week the national unity platform after a security stand off finally launched it’s new offices in Makerere Kavule. This means the party operations will shift base from Kamwokya to Makerere. The launch was attended by key figures notably FDC’s Dr Kiiza Besigye, Erias Lukwago, Jinja’s Dr Timothy Batuwa, Dr Miria Matembe among other top political shots in the country especially from the opposition wing.
When NUP unveiled the land last year as the location for it’s new offices, many were caught by surprise just like it was the case while unveiling the National Unity Platform which Kibalama willingly handed over to the then people power political group in broad day light though he later tried to suffocate it with lawsuits and claims of non-payments.
In fact Kibalama, Paul Simbwa Kagombe and the group would later open up offices in Rubaga purporting to be for National Unity Platform and even warned those who were paying allegiance to Kamwokya that the brace for the worst ahead but all these attempts terribly failed and went to the drawing board to plan next steps.
According to Bobi Wine, when Museveni government got to know that NUP was shifting base to Makerere Kavule, they made several efforts to buy off the neighbors such that they keep a keen eye on the activities taking place inside but the neighbors reportedly turned down offers by the operatives sent on such missions to Makerere Kavule.

The NUP principal further says that the state has done the same in Magere and has bought land near Bobi Wine’s home and stationed there operatives to keep eyes on him on whatever plan and move he makes in his bid to dislodge the Museveni government.
“In July last year when we unveiled the land at Kavule, we had acquired only two plots there. Of course we took the regime by surprise and they immediately panicked. One of their immediate responses was to approach two neighbors who owned buildings in front of our land and asked to buy them. Apparently they wanted to station security operatives there to monitor our operations, like they have done around my home in Magere where they have bought off several neighboring houses and plots and stationed operatives there”-says Bobi Wine on X formerly twitter.
Bobi Wine heaps praise to two people whom he has named but he says they turned down offers of huge money to sell their land to operatives from government. He now refers to these as unsung heroes because they saved the party from suffocation of the regime while setting up the new offices.
“They chose to be patient, withstanding so much pressure until we got the money to pay them. One of them had to lie to the people who were approaching him constantly that we had already paid a deposit, even when we had not. Those are the two buildings you see at the front, which we remodeled into offices. Those two individuals, ladies and gentlemen, are indeed unsung heroes of our cause!”-Bobi posted
National Unity is now among the few political parties in Uganda to have a permanent home though the NRM which sometime back collected huge sums of cash to build the Movement House is still renting along Kyadondo road.
