OWEYEGHA-AFUNADUULA: Musicians Should Not Disparage, Degrade Or Despise Each Other

I like music, don’t you? It soothes the spirit and the mind. I like talented musicians, but still love the music of those who become good musicians through sheer hard work, or those made by others.

I am not happy when musicians whose music soothes my mind and spirit publicly disparage, despise and downgrade one another. They should leave us who listen to their music to grade their music. But it is also true that one’s music will fluctuate from bad, to good, to excellent and back to bad if one allows it to.

Nevertheless what is bad to me may be good to another music enthusiast. If musicians respect each other we who listen to their music will also respect them.

Let their music also be the barometer with which the public can gauge their personalities in the music industry, and the value they add to the collective quality of life in our country.

We face so many problems, issues and challenges as a country. Music can be what we need to ease the burdens of life. Music is polluted when musicians allow themselves to be used by politicians to disparage their political challengers.

Let politicians today and tomorrow not politicize music. Music should be as pure as wisdom. Music is the tool we remain with to reduce the burdens of life created by bad governance, greed and selfishness.

When music is polluted by politics for the political gain of a few, it becomes meaningless and ineffective in easing our burdens of life by making us momentarily forget that we have bad governance, or greedy and selfish people all out to devour us and grab everything we knew was ours and God-given.
