If you have been in Uganda in the last two months, i guess you’ve heard about DNA testing were fathers are taking their children to ascertain if they are indeed theirs in order to hijack future problems. Some tests have come out positive, leaving happiness on their faces while others have turned out to be negative hence causing premium tears.
The DNA tests discussion made it’s way on the floor of parliament where several legislators especially female MPs called for regulations on the testing which is causing issues in marriages. According to the Ministry of Internal affairs, some fathers have since petitioned the director of citizenship and immigration to cancel passports of Children they’ve been taking of yet they’re not their own children.
Deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa director the ministry of health to come up with regulations and issue a statement on the DNA testing.
Following this directive, the minister of health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has clarified on the only laboratories certified to run DNA testing in Uganda. According to Aceng, they’re only two laboratories which are nationally and internationally recognized and certified to do DNA testing in Uganda.

In her statement issued today, the Government analytical Laboratory (GAL) and MBN Clinical Laboratories are the only laboratories to run DNA tests.

The minister also directed that no laboratory or any facility shall ship any samples for DNA paternity testing outside the country except with special clearance from the Director General of Health Services and/ or Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST).
She also clarified that any laboratory that is prepared and wants to do DNA paternity testing can apply to the Director General of Health Services who will set up a team of experts to assess the Laboratory for certification.
