Uganda, Kenya Review MOU Signed By President Museveni And Uhuru Kenya In Karamoja

MOROTO: The government of Uganda and Kenya have on Monday reviewed achievements reached by the signing of the memorandum of understanding between President Museveni and his former counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta in Karamoja.

In  2019, the two heads of state jetted in Moroto and signed the MOU on cross border trade and development.

On Monday, Gen Salem Saleh accompanied by minister for security Rtd Major General Jimmy Muhwezi met the Kenya delegation to review the MOU which was held in Moroto. The Kenyan team was led by Rebecca Miyano Cabinet secretary in charge of East African affairs who hailed the Uganda government for hosting the Kenyan people.

Among the key issues discussed in the meeting was the need for both countries to fight against criminality.

Miyano also noted that Kenya has enjoyed cordial relationship, free movement of People, growth of cross boarder trade between Uganda and Kenya and urged the same spirit to continue.

“The Government of Kenya appreciates the support accorded by The Government of Uganda to the Kenyans living in Uganda especially Turkana Pastoralists,” she noted

Gen Salem Sale who led the Ugandan delegation says the Turkana and Karamoja have many things in common ranging from culture, language and that Turkana county has continued protecting Ugandans working in Turkana and livestock that enter Turkana county are handed over back.

He calls upon for the regular engagements and communication which he says will help to boost cross border trade.

The meeting was attended by many officers including the four commanders such as commandant of Anti stock Theft Unit Commissioner Erias Kasirabo,  RPC MT. Moroto Francis Chemusto, Deputy 3rd division commanders Brig Felix Busizoori and Brig Joseph Balikudembe.

The troubled Karamoja minister Marry Goreti Kitutu dodged to attend the meeting instead she sent her junior minister Agnes Nadutu.

This website learnt that Kitutu could be fearing after she was warned by the Karimojong elders few days ago never to step a foot in the region after she was accused of stealing iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja.

The state house anti corruption unit is currently investigating the matter that has since dragged the name of Prime Minister, speaker of parliament and other members of parliament and ministers as beneficiaries of the said iron sheets.
