The joint security forces police and army have successfully recovered a total of 675 illegal guns in the hands of the Karimojong pastoralists since the 3rd disarmament operations was launched last year on July in 2021.
This was announced by the UPDF 3rd division commander Brig Joseph Balikudembe during the end of the year joint press conference on Friday held in Moroto police ground. Balikudembe says they’ve also recovered 1697 ammunitions since the operations was launched.

He further noted that Kotido district leads with the highest number of gun recovery followed, Kaabong, Napak,Moroto and Nabilatuk districts.
He however, said the general security situation in the region has greatly improved adding that the joint forces will continue to carry on until the region attains the total peace.
“We are managing the situation, and we are determined to restore total peace in Karamoja,”he said.
Elias Kasirabo the commandant of Anti-stock theft Unit personnel in Karamoja urged the leaders to join hands and end criminality.
He said the ASTU personnel has impounded thousands of litters of crude waragi which has been the driver of cattle raids in Karamoja. According to Kasirabo, when the raiders take the alcohol, they get a serious courage of going for raids.
Francis Chemusto the regional police commander Mt. Moroto region said the region was registering reduction in cattle rustling but was experiencing high cases of homicide incidents such as child abuse, domestic violence, robberies which he said they are working hard to end.
