The state house anti corruption unit has netted five top officials from Jinja City Council over corruption and embezzlement in an operation that was mounted by police and the Internal Security Organization (ISO) together with the Residential District Commissioners.
Those arrested are Peter Mawerere, Deputy city Town clerk Amina Mutesi the City Education officer, Charles Napendo the physical planner, Muduwa Godfrey, Secretary city land board and Fred Waiswa lands officer and are currently detained at Nalufenya police station.
According to sources privy to this matter have revealed to this website that the arrested officials are accused of giving away Spire Road Primary school land and Masese co Primary School land among others to Universities without following proper channels.
Jinja City has always been a hub of dubious land deals where by public land has ended up in the hands of private individuals under unclear circumstances and while in her investigations that ran for almost two years, Catherine Bamugemereire quizzed many officials from Jinja involved in land chaos.
Subsequent, the Anti corruption unit, Police and ISO have also arrested Hamome Nimrode Senior Procurement Officer, Diogo Paul Acting Natural Resources Officer & Nkyadi Laban Senior Assistant Accountant all from Kaliro District.

The three are accused of causing financial loss of over 6.5bn through illegal deductions of salaries & other govt funds through their staff SACCO. Others still at large but could be netted soon include the CFO Mutume Godfrey & the Principal Resources Officer Rebecca Kwagala.
