Breaking News: NRM Wins Kayunga LC5 By-election

After a bloody campaign process, voters in Kayunga went to the polls to vote for their district boss yesterday 16th December 2021.

The seat fell vacant after the mysterious death of the elected district chairperson Ffefeka Serubogo who was leaned to the National Unity Platform.

The by-election attracted six candidates with National Unity Platform candidate Harriet Nakwede, NRM with Andrew Muwonge, DP with Anthony Wadimba, Jamil Kamoga (late Ffefeka’s son), Bonifance Bandikubi independent and Majid Nyanzi also independent.

This morning, the Returning Officer of Kayunga District Janepher Kyobutungi declared the results with NRM’s Andrew Muwonge winning after polling 31830 votes followed by NUP’s Harriet Nakwedde with 31380 votes and the rest of the candidates polled the rest of the votes with DP’s Anthony Wadimba getting 159 votes, Boniface Bandikubi independent got 270 votes, Majid Nyanzi polled 1287 votes and Jamil Kamoga got 279 votes.

The declaration of results brings an end to the highly contested race which was marred with ballot stuffing, voter bribery and heavy military deployment.
