News coming in indicate that Kampala women representative and lawyer Shamim Malende has been attacked and left unharmed by unknown assiailants.
Malende was attacked on her way to Masaka court where she was going to represent her clients and MPs Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana who have been in Kigo prison for close to two months.
Bail application hearing for the incarcerated legislators was scheduled for today at Masaka high court after several judges snubbed the bail application hearing citing the sensitivity of the matter.
Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana were remanded to Kigo prison on 7th September and granted bail on 21st of the same month but both of them upon their release from Kigo prison they were re-arrested on new charges sparking widespread condemnations.
It’s not clear why Malende was attacked on her way to secure bail for the legislators who are accused of killing several people in Masaka using the Bijambiya machetes.
This particular attack on Lawyer Shamim Malende comes at the heels of a recent attack on Hon Betty Nambooze Bakireke who says a machete wielding killer attacked her in her bedroom and told her to say her last prayer. Police has since launched investigations into the matter.
