IBANDA: One pupil of Muziza Primary school in Bisheeshe division in Ibanda district has been struck dead by lightning while 30 others and four teachers of Primary six and Primary Seven have been rushed to different health centers in critical condition.
This happened during a heavy down pour that hit the area and lasted for close to thirty minutes while the children were attending classes.
Ibanda Resident District Commissioner Eliasto Akatuheebwa has identified the deceased as Asumani Ndyabahika, a primary six pupil.
Akatuheebwa has also advised parents to provide their children with rubber shoes as most of them had no shoes at the time. The incident follows a freak of lighting incidences in western Uganda in the districts of Bushenyi, Kanungu, Kabale among other that have taken lives over the past 10 years.
