The death toll of the accident victims in the modern bus crush with a trailer in Bugiri along the Jinja- Tororo high way has increased to eight according to police.
We had reported that three people died on spot but the number has increased to five following a police report and eye witnesses at the accident scene at Nakawa village in Busowa town council in Bugiri district.
According to eye witnesses, the bus belonging to Modern Coast company under a customized number MODERN 3 coming from Kenya had a head on collision with a trailer under registration number KBU 651Q/ ZE2344 that was coming from Iganga side.
Mr. Kawanguzi who was in the garden at the time of the accident around 05:00am early morning says the trailer lost control and veered off the road and collided with the bus coming from Kenya side.
Police immediately arrived at the scene and took the bodies to the Bugiri hospital mortuary and the 40 survivors who were aboard the bus were rushed to Bugiri general hospital and Fast line medical centre in Bugiri.
According to Mr. Hopkins Twesigye the OC traffic says that the turn boy and the driver died on spot and another bus passenger also died on spot and other five died on their way to the hospital.
“We are yet to identify the exact cause of the accident we picked some bottles of Waragi in the trailer and suspect that the driver was drunk”, Mr Twesigye said.
